POWELL Land Company serves the area near downtown Houston, extending from the city center out to FM 1960 / Highway 6. This encompasses everything in north Harris County from the Katy Freeway [ I-10 ] and Jersey Village to US-59 and the Aldine area.
The value of acreage in suburban communities on the fringes of metropolitan Houston like Cypress and Tomball is out of reach for many people. Consider yourself among the more fortunate if you can afford the land in northwest Harris County.
Much of the available land in the north-central area are city lots in neighborhoods such as Highland Heights and the general area of Acres Homes.
Acres Homes is south of Aldine and about 10 miles northwest of downtown Houston. This area was originally developed around the time of World War I and got its name because the land was sold by the acre. It provided homesites on lots adequate for small gardens, poultry and other farm animals.
Even today there are still some good-sized lots to be found and redeveloped in this area and the location is convenient to Loop 610, I-45, and US-290.
